The Aerospace Education Center and its IMAX Theatre opened on June 10, 1995, with the theater featuring the film "The Dream is Alive".

Facing competition from commercial IMAX theatres in the area, the entire complex ceased operations on January 1, 2011, and liquidated its assets. A large portion of the complex, including the theater, was demolished in 2014.
