The Eastgate opened on October 26, 1966, featuring the film Alvarez Kelly. The theatre originally had two screens -- the first multiplex in Portland -- and cost $1 million to build.

When Regal Cinemas closed the Eastgate on February 25, 2001, Raiders of the Lost Ark was playing on the largest screen in the largest (1,300 seats) auditorium in the state.
