Loews opened this theatre as the South Bay 3, the third single screen theatre in the parking lot of the South Bay Galleria mall. When the original South Bay 1 was tri-plexed to be renamed the South Bay 4-5-6, this was renamed Cinema 1.

General Cinemas acquired this theatre from Loews on 6/28/1972 and closed this location when they opened the Galleria Stadium 16 inside the mall located next door in 1997.
