Opened as the Columbia in 1891 in a converted church, a fire virtually destroyed the auditorium of the South End in 1916. Marcus Loew hired Thomas Lamb to create a new auditorium and the theater reopened as the New Columbia in 1917. The entire structure was demolished in 1957.
