The P&A opened in 1918 with a full stage, organ, orchestra pit and dance hall. Owner Kate Penniman Allen caused a controversy in 1921 when she wanted to show films on Sundays. Later operated by Harry Lush, the theater closed early in the 1950s. In 1955, the Hohler family reopened the P&A and operated it until 1961. Al Dezell purchased the building and exhibited foreign and independent films here as the Plymouth Art. The theater was destroyed by a fire in January 1968.
