Originally built at 240 West 42nd Street as a legitimate house, burlesque later appeared before becoming an 800-seat movie theater in 1942 as the Laffmovie and closing in the mid-1980s.

AMC Theatres had the theater moved down the street to be the lobby of its new 25-screen complex which opened on April 1, 2000, with 4900 seats.
