Information for this tour was contributed by Matt Lutthans.

In 1974, General Cinemas opened the Everett Mall I-II-III (always in Roman Numerals) inside the mall. Several years later (early 80s?), they opened the IV-V-VI about a quarter-mile away, across the street from the other end of the mall. In the late 80s (I think), they added on to the IV-V-VI with cinemas 7-10, meaning there were now two complexes: The original 1-3 (at this point in regular numbers in the print ads) and the 4-10. (Regal would later come along and build the Everett 9 right next door to the 4-10.)

These (General Cinemas theatres) were notoriously awful cinemas. An article in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer once described them as "wind tunnels with screens." None of the screens were stereo-equipped until WELL into the stereo age. I-II-II got stereo first, around 1988, I would guess. 4,5, and 6 got stereo in the early 90s, and 7-10 NEVER received the stereo treatment.

When General was bought out by AMC, AMC took over the theatres but obviously really had no interest in them. On signs which had read "General Cinema" they just blacked out the word "General," which looked really tacky. (You can see it on a couple of the signs.) They pulled out after only a few months, and the theatres all sat dark for a few months again. The 4-10 are now slated for destruction (good riddence!), and the 1-3 are now operated by Regal Cinemas, which also operates the Everett 9, which oddly enough is right next door to the old 4-10, which is closed. These photos are from the last weekend of operation under AMC.
