The Saenger was heavily damaged by a fire on Easter morning 1944. It was reopened in 1948 after the war ended.

An article in the January 7, 1948 edition of the Hope-Star highlighted programs and features about the grand reopening, including photos. A reprint of the original 1927 opening article is also featured.
