Information for this tour was contributed by Ken Roe. Built in 1872 as the Athenaeum Theatre (for live shows), films were introduced from the early 1900's. Sound films came in 1929 when 'The Jazz Singer' had an exclusive run at this theatre and Hoyts Theatres took control from 1931. After closing as a full time cinema in 1977, it has reverted back to live stage use.
