The Roxie was built on the site of the former Quinn's Superba Theatre in 1932, and was the last theater constructed on Broadway before the principal theatre district moved to Hollywood. The Roxie was equiped for stage performances and had a pipe organ, but had a long, narrow auditorium intended for motion pictures.
