Information for this tour was contributed by Dave Felthous. The Columbia was sold by local owners to the Seattle-based Sterling Theaters in 1945 and remained owned by them until the City of Longview obtained it in 1983. The city leases it to a nonprofit organization of local citizens which hires a professional manager to run it. It's used for concerts, plays, etc.
In 2010, the Columbia emerged from a year-long, $11 million retrofit, refurbishing, updating, etc., and had its first stage show in early February, a return engagement of the Smothers Brothers. The work they did is impressive, including careful restoration of original decor and relics. New seating in a classic design affords more leg room. This has reduced capacity from just over 1,000 to just over 800. Photos Photos remain the property of the Member and may not be reproduced without the written consent of the Member. |
