Information for this tour was contributed by Columbus Metropolitan Library. The Southern Theatre opened September 21, 1896, and was acclaimed for its acoustics and unique lighting system. The theater closed in April, 1979, but was reopened September 26, 1998 after extensive renovation by the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts. The theatre was designed by the Columbus architectural firm of Dauben, Krumm, and Riebel.
