Information for this tour was contributed by Scott Norwood. Originally built as a barn, opened in 1928 as a seasonal motion-picture theatre, and closed on September 2, 2006. The final show was Pirates of the Caribbean 2. The building was previously used as a barn and an ice house. It will be demolished this fall.
The projector heads look like Simplex Standards, but are actually Kaplans (early Centurys) and are mounted on Western Electric bases (same as the ones at the Avon in Providence), with Jaxlights installed.
Capacity (without the balcony, which closed in the 1970s) was about 300; they told me that they usually drew about 50-60 per night (one show, usually at 8pm).
The building was demolished on October 31, 2006. Photos Photos remain the property of the Member and may not be reproduced without the written consent of the Member. |
