Information for this tour was contributed by Darren Snow. Edward Arthur of the Arthur chain announced plans for this drive-in in May 1963, but it took a while to actually get off the ground. Fred Sterneberg & Associates drew up the plans; there was room for 1,200 cars. The theater's sign -- consisting of a red ball atop a tall yellow pylon -- was a local landmark, easily seen from far down the adjoining Interstate 270. When the chain gradually collapsed in 1977, the 270 was one of the last four Arthur theaters to remain open. It lasted into the '80s under different management. A shopping center now occupies the site. Photos Photos remain the property of the Member and may not be reproduced without the written consent of the Member. |
