Information for this tour was contributed by The Ruffin Theatre. Mr. William Ruffin purchased the Ruffin's current location, from LL Lewis, in 1934. At the time the building was a movie theatre called The Palace. Mr. Ruffin remodeled the building unfortunately there was a fire, in 1936. While repairs and remodels were underway the Old Paine Opera House, on the north side of the square was used, until the Ruffin could be used.
The Ruffin Theatre is now an offical historical landmark of Covington, Tennessee. The Ruffin Theatre currently offers live shows and is used as a haunted house around Halloween. In addition, it occassionally held concerts. In fact, a young Elvis Presley once performed there. In the early 1980's, it was renovated and has hosted live theater for many years. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Photos Photos remain the property of the Member and may not be reproduced without the written consent of the Member. |
