Information for this tour was contributed by Jeff Edling. The World Theatre originally opened as a single-screen theater about 1930. It was twinned in the early 1980s with the balcony being converted into a separate auditorium. The World was operated by World Realty when it first opened but was taken over by Central States in 1935 who operated it for many years. Carmike Cinemas operated the theater in recent years. The World was finally closed in June 2008.
