The World Theatre originally opened as a single-screen theater in 1927. It was twinned in the early 1980s. The World was operated by World Realty when it first opened but was taken over by Central States in 1935 who operated it for many years. Carmike Cinemas operated the theater in recent years. The World was closed by Carmike in June 2008 but subsequently reopened as a community run repertory movie theatre.
