Information for this tour was contributed by Grant Smith. The Wynnsong Cinemas were built by Carmike Cinemas in 1996 as part of the Shops at Riverwoods development in the northern part of Provo. The 42,000-square-foot theater complex had a total seating capacity of 2,240 and featured high-back seats, digital sound in all auditoriums and THX certification in six. Construction began in April 1996, with the grand opening expected in time for the Christmas 1996 movie season. [1]
The Wynnsong Cinemas were later remodeled to add stadium seating. The number of THX certified auditoriums has been reduced from six to two. In June 2006 the Wynnsong Cinemas became the first theater in Utah County to feature digital projection.
AMC acquired this theatre when they purchased Carmike Cinemas in December 2016. The theatre was remodeled and 2019 to include one of AMC's "Prime" screens, and the screen count was reduced to eight.
