The Northland opened on August 17, 1966, with Alfred Hitchcock's "Torn Curtain". Within a few years, the theater was thriving as a 70mm roadshow venue, its most successful being "Funny Girl", which ran for over a year. The auditorium was split in two in 1976. In 1986, AMC purchased the theater, but declining attendance closed it in January 1990. The last films were "Look Who's Talking" and "The Masque of the Red Death".
