The atmospheric Redford Theatre opened on January 27, 1928, and was built at a cost of $500,000. The theater was equipped with a 3-manual, 10-rank Barton theater organ, which is still in use today.

Due to its oriental decor, much of the theater was remodeled during World War II, destroying or covering most of the theater's ornate design. The current marquee was added in 1949.

Controlled by Adolph and Irving Goldberg, the theater showed films daily until 1974. The theater was then leased to the Motor City Theater Organ Society, which purchased the theater in 1977. MCTOS is slowly restoring the theater to its original decor, and is using the theater regularly for films and organ concerts.
