The Vth Forum opened on December 9, 1966, with Jean-Luc Godard's The Married Woman. Owners Roger and Kenneth Robinson promised "award-winning films from the European film feativals, as well as domestic films of artistic value" and the theater featured lounges on both upper and lower levels and offered free coffee to patrons.
Goodrich Theatres purchased the theater in 1979 and renamed it the Ann Arbor. The new owners automated the projection, causing a major battle with the projectionists' union. The theater was twinned in 1980.
