An article in the 10/10/1969 edition of the Newport News Daily Press touted the opening of this theatre, owned by Paul, Bill, and Milton Blane.
The article stated: "[the theatre was constructed] on three levels, the theater building has a main entrance on the top floor where customers walk into a large carpeted lobby containing the ticket sales book. Across from the booth, double stairways lead down to the lower floors and begin the red and blood color schemes which are followed throughout the building.
Red carpeted stairs lead to Cinema 1. the 500-seat theater, and blue carpeted stairs lead to Cinema 2.
The mezzanine level of the building includes two restroom for each theater and the projection room for both theaters.
The lower floor contains another lobby and lounge area centered ith [sic] counters for soft drinks, candy and popcorn. A decorative divider separates two distinct areas marked by red carpeting on one side and blue on the opposite side."
Carmike added a third and fourth screen, opening on 5/19/1990. Carmike closed the theatre after business on 1/24/2002.
