Previously operated by: AmericanPlace Movies, Digiplex Destinations, Carmike Cinemas, AMC Theatres, New Vision Theatres |
AmericanPlace Movies opened the Sparta Theatre in July 2007, replacing the former Sparta Theatre which had been demolished on the same site in 2006. It was closed abruptly on March 15, 2011, with the operator stating that the company "couldn't make a go of it."
The theater reopened under a new operator on April 29, 2011.
In August 2014, Carmike Cinemas acquired this location and 19 others from Digiplex Destinations.
AMC acquired this theatre when they purchased the entire Carmike chain in December 2016. It was divested to New Vision Theatres in April 2017 as part AMC's agreement with the DOJ.
After New Vision filed for bankruptcy in 2020, the DOJ permitted AMC to resume operation of this location, as they were being held responsible for the lease anyway.
