A Santa Maria Times article date 6/28/1972 reported that theater owner John Klee had sold this theater to National Cinema Corp of Beverly Hills.
An article dated 11/27/1978 reporting violence in the Peppertree Plaza's parking lot stated the suspects had kicked "...in the window of the boarded-up Peppertree Theatre, now closed..."
An article dated 8/8/1981 reported that the theater had been renovated and reopened that day as the Peppertree Plaza Christian Center.
An article dated 9/16/1984 reported that local Oscar Flores had reopened the theater as the Azteca, specializing in Spanish language films.
An article dated 2/10/1989 reported that independent theater owner passing through town, Dave Machado, made plans to reopen this theater by March 3rd. A 6/30/1989 article reported the theater was vandalized the night before, with a 7/7/1989 article proclaiming the theater "history" because the vandals "...cut the projection screen into small pieces and wrecked the projection equipment." Machado then said "I have other theaters to occupy my time and I'm not spending the thousands."
