The December 23, 1936 edition of the Hope-Star announced the opening of the New Theatre for Christmas Day of that year. The premiere feature would be "Don't Gamble with Love".
An article stated that the New Theatre was a remodeling of the existing Queen Theatre.
The grand opening ad touted that it was "Independently Owned and Operated" by R.V. McGinnis.
The theater reopened during World War II after the Saenger was heavily damaged by a fire and closed. The New Theatre closed again after the Saenger reopened after the war in 1948. Photos Photos remain the property of the Member and may not be reproduced without the written consent of the Member. |
