Information for this tour was contributed by Justin West. The RKO Orpheum Theater was built in 1921 at a cost of $500,000 for the vaudeville circiut. No sightlines are impaired by a post (no posts!). In March 1933 it was converted to primarily movies. Demolition was considered in the late 1970s by a city comparing a run-down theater to what revenue a new hotel on the site might bring. Thankfully, this gem was refurbished and plays and orchestras are now the feature attractions ... along with the architecture that would have been lost!
