Information for this tour was contributed by Dave Felthous. Housed in a charming frame building that originally was an American Legion hall, the Seven Gables has 200-some red-upholstered seats on a stepped floor, offering good sightlines for the mostly arthouse films that play there.
Brown velvet drapes tied with gold, fringed ropes line the walls. The screen is covered with a painting called "The Last Castle," featuring a couple sitting on a stone bridge, a castle in the background. When the movie begins, the painting rolls up and one of two chandeliers ascends into the ceiling so as to not block the picture.
A favorite of Seven Gables patrons is the large, living-room-like lobby, with its old-fashioned sofas and lamps and big windows. It is here where the theater holds an annual sale of movie posters that draws big crowds.
