The Cannery Cinema operated from 1971-78 in the Cannery building near Fisherman's Wharf. It is now a tavern.
An article in the 3/29/1988 edition of the San Francisco Examiner reported that the remaining theaters in late Mel Novikoff's Surf Theater holdings had been sold to Blumenfeld Theatres. This same article reported that in addition to the Clay, Lumiere, and Castro; the chain at one time included the Surf, Stagedoor, and Cannery Cinemas.
