Information for this tour was contributed by Jack Tillmany & Gary Parks. Pantages: 416 - 12th St. (between Franklin & Broadway); opened 4 August 1912; renamed Lurie 28 October 1923; renamed Hippodrome 23 January 1926; renamed Premier 1932; reopened as Downtown 8 November 1939; LYO 1946
The shell of the Pantages (which was remodeled in the late 1940s to house the Oakland Tribune printing presses) is being remodeled again for its new life as housing. During the course of the remodeling, the orignal stud-lit ceiling and upper walls of the Pantages' outer lobby were revealed, with much of the plaster ornament still intact, along with windows leading into an old theatre office and restroom.
