Construction began on the Maxwell's Outdoor Theater in August of 1951 and the theater opened later that fall. It was the first drive-in in Wood County, and used a large speaker at the screen instead of in-car speakers. This was the demise of the short-lived theater, as local officials passed ordinances regulating the types of equipment to be used at outdoor theaters. Rather than converting to the in-car speakers that the owner claimed were "impractical", the theater closed at the end of June, 1953. Return to the top of this page or Return to the main page
