Information for this tour was contributed by Henry Lau. The building was built during WWI and was originally a tavern. The building was purchased by Ida Marie Pohlmann Lau and turned into the Southway Theatre. (She and her late husband Leopold built the Lemay Theater around 1927). At sometime (perhaps at Ida's death in 1949, ownership was transferred to a corporation (I think called I.E.L. Properties Inc.) composed of Ida's three children, Irvin E. Lau, Ella Lau Marty and Leo Lau Jr. The Lemay and Southway theaters were leased out to the Wehrenberg Bros. from about 1939 to 1954. I don't think the Southway operated as a movie theater after that.
