Information for this tour was contributed by Darren Snow. The Post-Dispatch reported on June 7, 1936, that the Wehrenberg chain, in league with Louis Ansell, was slated to open a "modernistic" hardtop theater -- seating 1000 -- at 3196 Morganford; construction was to begin in September. What we got instead was a roofless "airdome" at practically the same address, in business by the summer 1937 season. Directory listings for the "Armo Skydome" (named for its proximity to the intersection of Arsenal and Morganford) continued until 1952. When the Cook Supermarket opened on the site in 1955, the Globe-Democrat reported that it had been built on the site of "St. Louis' last open-air theatre," which the paper inexplicably called the Air Way.
