Information for this tour was contributed by Ken Roe. When first opened, the theatre was set in a large courtyard, surrounded by a two storied shopping parade decorated in a Spanish style. The surrounding shops were badly damaged in the Whittier Narrows earthquake in October 1987 and were demolished in the early 1990s, leaving just the theatre standing isolated in a huge patch of land.
As of August 2003 there is a battle on between developers who want to rip out the interior and convert the theatre into a possible Walgreen's store and the LA Conservancy who want to retain the buildings features.
