Information for this tour was contributed by Al Schon. The Empire closed in October 1984 when Carisch Theaters of Minneapolis bought it from Minnesota Amusements (Plitt Theaters) at that time. (Carisch was since sold in 1988).
Later in 1984, Trinity Medical Center bought the theater from Carisch and demolition began a month later.
The screen sat on top of the lobby and the patrons would walk to the back of the theater to enter the main auditorium. The balcony had stadium seating and the projection room was located above the balcony. The auditorium seated approximately 1200.
The theater also hosted churches, concerts and the Miss Minot pageants, as well as many school events that required large seating and a stage. Photos Photos remain the property of the Member and may not be reproduced without the written consent of the Member. |
