Information for this tour was contributed by Daniel Gibbs. The largest and nicest of East Baltimore theatres, the State opened in 1927, was redecorated in 1940, and closed for good in 1963. Although not a downtown house it was famous for good vaudeville and a small but boisterous organ (which still plays on in the home of a local organ enthusiast). It lay shuttered for years until the encroaching nearby Johns Hopkins University (School of Medicine) gutted the theatre for office space.
