Information for this tour was contributed by Daniel Gibbs. The Village, opened in 1935 and closed as a movie house in the mid '90s, now open as a performing arts center. Part of the planned community of Hilton Village, inside Newport News city limits, founded in 1918 to accomodate the huge influx of workers to the mighty Newport News shipyards. The Village is in excellent condition, its Deco styling still intact and still sporting its original, neon-lit vertical marquee.
Martin Theatres purchased all seven Gordon Theaters in the Newport News area in October of 1969. Photos Photos remain the property of the Member and may not be reproduced without the written consent of the Member. |
