In 1931 the owner of the Ideal Theatre built the Capital Theatre on the other side of Summer St., onto the back of the Sorenson/Leland Block on Main St. This theater closed after five months and then reopened as the Avon in 1936 with air conditoning.

The Springfield closed in July 2008 due to a fire.
