Information for this tour was contributed by Daniel Gibbs. The Harlem was built as a Methodist church. It's a beautiful structure that fronts on once-lovely Harlem Park. (Don't visit unarmed.) It opened in 1932 and closed in the late 1970s -- and is now a Methodist church again! However, it's still got the atmospheric ceiling and fake Spanish buildings on the sidewalls that were installed back in 1932.
