Information for this tour was contributed by John Stewart. The building has been many things since it was last in operation. In 1972, it was a porn theater and it closed either that year or early 1973. I worked there that summer and it was extremely hot in that south facing booth. No A/C. The third photo, taken in 1972, is in the ladies restroom up stairs in the balcony. The balcony was reserved for "blacks" only. Many theaters in the south were built that way. Evidently, there were some man problems between two women, thus the warning in lipstick left on the wall from who knows when.
In March 2021, Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas filed for bankruptcy and permanently closed this and two other locations.
