Information for this tour was contributed by Dave Felthous. Claiming to be the nation's oldest continuously operating movie theater, the mostly locally-owned Bay existed for years on first-run Disney films, which it somehow managed to book despite the dominance of chains in the area.
The chains finally prevailed, however, and the Bay fell on hard times, finally closing in the mid-90s and leaving Ballard with no movie house. The property was purchased by local millionaire and movie fan Kenny Alhadeff, who initially planned to upgrade the existing building and reopen it. But the old structure proved unsalvagable, so it was demolished.
In its place Alhadeff built, on the existing small lot, a stunning three-story triplex which is called the Majestic Bay.
