The Star is famous for the March 1908 riot that occurred after an usher beat two University of Michigan students unconscious. Apparently the students were making fun of him while he narrated the silent film to a group of patrons. The 3000-student riot left the theater, which was located in the 100 block of East Washington, in a pile of rubble.
