The Mercury opened in July 1941. The theater was one of the first outside of the downtown area with 70mm and was also the first of the "neighborhood" theaters to show first-run films.
The 2,000 seat auditorium was twinned in 1985 and eventually became known as the Metro Mercury 1 & 2.
