The IMAX Dome Theater in the Detroit Science Center features a 66.5 foot diameter dome screen. The auditorium was slightly remodeled in 1991, but state funding cuts prompted the closing of both the theater and the science center later that year. Both the center and the theater reopened in 1992 after a year of fundraising. The center and the theater closed again in 2000-2001 for extensive renovations, including a new sound system, re-covering of the seats and a new dome screen.
