Information for this tour was contributed by Darren Snow. The Campus I & II Cinema opened on September 8, 1971 with "Jenny" and "The Grissom Gang".
After an open house that offered free movies all day on September 7, the Campus opened for serious business the following day with a $1.50 ticket price (75c for kids).
This Mid-America property was Columbia's first twin theatre, promoted with an opening-day newspaper ad that trumpeted the "expectant arrival" of "twins!," complete with the requisite stork graphic.
Commonwealth took over operations in the mid-eighties; it was then usurped by UA and eventually Crown before closing in the 1990s. A peek through the window in 1998 found the ticket counter partially demolished by a large blunt object, and a FOR SALE sign posted. It's hard to believe that a college town the size of Columbia can't support a downtown theatre.
