Information for this tour was contributed by Klaus Weber. The Lux was built in its present form in 1960 by architect Johannes Hayer with a capacity of 531 seats. The first floor was divided with shop windows, and above the entrance the film was announced by a big handmade poster. At the corner, a neon-sun and the words "LUX" were shining. In 1961, the Berlin wall was built not far away and the train station around the corner closed. Bad times for this location! The Lux had to close in 1965 and was later used as a supermarket. The theater was still vacant in the summer of 2001.
Photos Photos remain the property of the Member and may not be reproduced without the written consent of the Member. |
