Information for this tour was contributed by Darren Snow. The Missouri, an ornate movie palace that seated 795, was acquired by Commonwealth in 1953 and remodeled by that company's Roy Tucker the following year. The facade was "modernized" in 1967; that treatment now appears sort of quaint in its own way.
The Missouri Symphony Society bought the theatre from Commonwealth in December 1987, and the movies ended the following month. Dave Jones, director of theatre operations for Commonwealth, served champagne at the final show and even let folks sit in the balcony for the first time in 15 years.
The first symphony rehearsal was scheduled for 6/8/88.
