Designed by Rapp & Rapp and built for a million dollars, the Paramount Theatre opened on September 3, 1931, on the site of the burned down Rialto. The theater originally had 2016 seats and a unique park setting, located west of the entrance. It had rock gardens, waterfalls, trees, shrubs, flowering plants and rustic seats. The theater was purchased by City of Aurora and reopened as an Arts Centre in 1976 after a $1,500,000 restoration. The Art Deco/Venetian landmark -- now the home of the Fox Valley Symphony -- was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 18, 1980.
