Also known as The Golden State Theatre. Originally seating 1600 when it opened on August 6, 1926, it was triplexed and the balcony was made into two 'upstairs' theatres in the April 1976. UA had two buildings across the street from each other. They sold tickets for both buildings at the 417 address (the gold building - triplex). The white building is the single screen across the street.

The Wurlitzer organ was installed in 1992-94 and came from San Francisco's late Parkside Theatre. The stage was restored and made functional. The screen flew into the loft and converted from a cinema to a performance theatre in about 10 minutes.

In September 2004, the theatre was sold to a businessman from Santa Monica. Restoration began immediately to remove the triplex construction in the balcony.

As of March 2005, the auditorium is restored to one room as it should be. All atmospheric lighting is again working. A new screen and higher wattage projectors are installed. The downstairs has all new Irwin seats. The loge section of the balcony will soon be getting its new seats, bringing the seating capacity up to around 1200 +/-. The filthy and intrusive concession stand has been removed from the lobby.

Evergreene Studios of New York restored the lobby ceiling stencils and wood graining. The understage dressing rooms will soon be rebuilt.
