William H. Clune opened the Clune's Broadway in 1910 as an outlet for the films produced by his Clune Studio (now Raleigh Studios). The theater was specifically designed in 1910 as a venue for motion picture exhibition.

The theater originally had an electric rooftop sign that displayed the theater's name and the current time. The sign was replaced with a billboard in the late 1920s.

Until the theater closed in 1991, it was the oldest continuously operating movie theater in California. It was virtually unchanged from the days before feature-length films.

The lobby has been converted to retail space.
