Paramount Theatre
1501 Broadway
New York NY

Photo from the Jim Rankin collection.

A wonderful color rendering of a little known COLOR image of the great NY or Times Square PARAMOUNT. It was made by Edward Thorne, the long dead author of the book "Decorative Draperies and Upholstery" of 1927 where it appears in the chapter on Theatre Draperies. The 3-tons of this Grand Drapery and House Curtain were made by a contractor of Marshall Fields department store in Chicago, and all the trims (pendants, tassels, cords, fringes, etc.) were made by the E.L. Mansure Co. then of Chicago. Imagine the difficulty of packing and shipping this huge design by train to NYC! Apparently, Mr. Thorne designed it and that is why he did the rendering and it appears in his book.
